Newborn or One Size: Battle of the Diapers

Newborn or One Size: Battle of the Diapers

Can a diaper really get you from birth to potty training?

Possibly, but you'd likely benefit from a few months of newborn diapers until your babe really fits into one size (OS) diapers. There are always exceptions, but after seeing the size difference I was sold on the necessity of newborn cloth.

I may be a little biased, because my babies start small, but it took a few months for both of my littles to hit the 8 pound mark that most OS diapers start fitting, and even then they didn't get a good fit until closer to 10 pounds. The sizing and fit difference between a fully let out newborn cloth diaper and a fully snapped down OS cloth diaper was astonishing.

GroVia O.N.E and GroVia Newborn AIOThese two dolls are the exact same size. The doll on the left is wearing a GroVia O.N.E. snapped to the smallest setting and using the optional hook and loop at the waist. The doll on the right is wearing a GroVia Newborn All In One (AIO) with the rise fully unsnapped. As you can see, there is quite a difference in the two. While there are plenty of babies who may fit into one size diapers at birth, there are also plenty who can use newborn diapers for 3-4 months with ease. Not only is the Newborn AIO smaller overall, but it is so much trimmer to fit under those tiny newborn clothes. Even if an additional absorbency booster is needed, the newborn will help you get a trim fit that will allow you maximize the use of your newborn size clothes.  Win-win situation!

I agree totally that you may want both options! We were told not to “bother” with newborn diapers, but then had our son two whole months before he was “due”! So we ended up investing in some newborns, plus preemie flats & covers and he still even fits in some 11 months later due to skinny thighs! His AIOs didn’t start really fitting until he was almost 6 months!

It’s really dependent on situations and preferences! I was expecting a chunky monkey like my mom’s babes all were, but instead I have a tall skinny guy that looks amazingly like a miniature of my husband! Ha ha!
